Measure the rice Use the measuring cup that came with the rice cooker. One cup (about 180 ml) is usually called “one go” in Japanese and is enough for one to two people.
Wash the rice Rinse the rice with cold water a few times until the water becomes clearer. This removes extra starch and makes the rice less sticky.
Add water Put the washed rice into the inner pot and add water. The general rule is: for 180 ml of rice, add about 200 ml of water. You can also use the water level lines marked inside the pot.
Soak the rice Let the rice soak in the water for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps the rice cook more evenly and improves the texture.
Put the inner pot into the rice cooker Make sure the bottom of the pot is dry and clean. Then close the lid.
Select the cooking setting Press the menu button to choose the type of rice (for example, “white rice,” “brown rice,” or “quick cooking”).
Start cooking Press the start button. The cooker will automatically adjust the heat and time.
Wait for the beep When the rice is done, the rice cooker will beep. Don’t open the lid right away—let it sit for about 10 minutes so the steam can settle.
Fluff the rice Use a plastic or wooden rice paddle to gently fluff the rice before serving.
